What is COVID-19 Antibody Test?
Also known as Antibody (Serology) test, it conduct samples to look for antibodies to decide if an individual have any previous infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. The COVID-19 Antibody Test can help to distinguish from those who may be infected with the virus or those who have recovered from a COVID-19 infection.
However, antibody testing is not recommended for individuals who have gone for the COVID-19 vaccination. This is because it cannot determine whether or not you are immune or protected from COVID-19.
What does a positive COVID-19 antibody test means?
A positive antibody test would mean that an individual contains antibodies for COVID-19 as a result of:
Previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 (A virus that causes COVID-19)
Vaccination against COVID-19
Why would people still go for an antibody testing even though they are vaccinated?
Antibodies are an indicator for protection and it can help to prevent many infections.
With an antibody testing, they are equipped with additional information about their medical status. For example, if they happen to get a low antibody count, they can adjust and make changes to their behaviours or choices in life, like skipping certain events or meetups, to take extra precautions.
