Types of Acne:

Blackheads and whiteheads

Blackheads and whiteheads

They are simply clogged pores below the surface of the skin that are not inflamed. When oil, dead skin cells and bacteria accumulate to block pores, small bumps start to arise on the surface of the face. The good news is that blackheads and whiteheads are easily treatable since they are not inflamed and do not need any serious medication.

Papules and pustules

Whenever a clogged pore grows irritated, they start to become inflamed acne. It swells up, appears reddish, and is painful to touch.

Pustules

These are inflamed acne lesions, mostly filled with pus. Pustules can appear white or yellow in colour, and popping pustules irresponsibly can lead to further acne scarring.

Nodules

Nodules are categorised as large, hard and painful bumps embed under the skin surface during a later stage of acne breakout. Unlike Pustules, they are larger, harder and raw to touch. They do not contain pus. Nodules can be pesky and last as long for weeks or months, making it difficult to treat, and may cause dark acne scars in due time.

Cysts

Cysts represent a severe form of acne lesion that are both inflamed and filled with pus. This normally builds up when oil ducts and pores become clogged and rupture. They are rather painful and require professional medical treatment as soon as possible.

Treatment for Stubborn Acne : Cortisone Injection

“A quick, fuss-free solution to get rid of cystic acne!”

Corticosone injections can be used to treat cysts, deep nodules or hypertrophic scars.

The whole process is quick with minimal pain as micro-needles are used. One can expect the blemish to eventually shrink, soften and flatten out.

Acne Scars

Acne Scars treatment comes in many forms.

Preferred treatments like Infini and  Revlite stimulate collagen production, which helps in filling out the scars from beneath the surface.

Laser skin resurfacing such as the Fotona and fractional lasers remove micron thin layers of the skin, hence reduces pores and improves uneven skin textures.

Types of Acne Scars:

Types of Acne Scars

  • Ice pick scars : narrow scars that look like the skin has been punctured by a sharp object.
  • Boxcar scars: broader, box-shaped depressed scars
  • Rolling scars look like rolling hills and valleys. They are also considered depressed scars.

These common types of acne scars are called “depressed scars”.

There are also “Post-inflammatory colour changes” and “Hypertrophic / keloid Scars
