How to Lose Post-baby Belly?

[:en]Pregnancy and delivery is a joyful time!

However, many women find it difficult subsequently to lose the weight gained and tighten loose belly skin.

During pregnancy, the growing baby as well as hormonal changes stretch the skin, muscles, and supporting structures. Women notice that they develop stubborn fat and cellulite around the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs; and abdominal skin is loose due to stretching during pregnancy.

There are many non surgical treatments available in our clinic to target different concerns and can help you get your pre-baby body back!

If your main concern is

1. Abdominal fat and cellulite

Vanquish and Exilis are treatments that utilise radiofrequency waves heat up and destroy fat cells, and the fat is subsequently expelled from the body via the lymphatic system. It also stimulates collagen regeneration and remodelling, resulting in firmer, tighter skin, and improves the appearance of cellulite. This is especially desirable in women post-pregnancy, who often complain of loose abdominal skin. Vanquish is a non contact device for overall bulk treatment of abdomen, love handles, and thighs, while Exilis aids in targeting specific trouble areas for body contouring. The two treatments can be done shortly after delivery, and can be combined for enhanced results.

Cryolipolysis is a fat freezing technology to reduce fat cell volume and cause cell death. It is useful to target areas with pockets of fat, such as love handles, butt, and thighs. We generally recommend newly postpartum mums to wait a few months, as the abdominal tissues are too lax immediately after birth to provide significant results. Skin tightening treatments can be added on to address the skin laxity.

Results are gradual, and a treatment course over a few months are recommended, as it takes time for fat cells to break down, and fat to be expelled. These treatments are also not a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise.

2. Loose skin

Radiofrequency treatments Vanquish and Exilis have a good track record for tightening of loose skin.

Other treatment modalities include:

  • Fotona TightLase, a dual-wavelength laser therapy that stimulates fat metabolism, collagen remodelling, and tightening of flaccid skin.
  • SkinTyte works similarly by using infrared light to heat up the deeper skin layers to induce collagen production for firmer skin.

3. Stretch marks

Stretch marks are a result of hormonal changes coupled with the dermal tissue of the skin being stretched rapidly during the period of fetal growth and weight gain in pregnancy. Although stretch marks cannot be totally erased, there are treatments to improve their appearance.

Infini is a device that delivers radiofrequency energy via microneedles to break down fibrous tissue and stimulates collagen remodelling. Lasers and broadband light (BBL) also have good results to reduce the pigmented appearance of early stretch marks.
