What is Shingles?

Shingles (herpes zoster) is a painful, blistering rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles is not only painful but can also lead to a serious complication known as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), which causes long-lasting nerve pain even after the rash has healed. Understanding shingles and its implications is crucial for effective prevention and treatment.
