Shingles Vaccination Singapore: Protect Against Shingles

[:en]Shingles is a condition with painful blistering rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. A person will be at higher risk of getting Shingles if he/she is:

  • elderly
  • under stress
  • with a medical condition that weakens the immune system
  • taking medical treatments that suppress the immune system

1 in 3 people will get Shingles in their lifetime.

Shingles typically occurs on one of side of the face or body and the rash usually lasts for two to three weeks. Taking anti-virals e.g. Acyclovir, at the early onset of symptoms may help to reduce the severity and hasten the recovery. Occasionally, Shingles may lead to complication such as post-herpetic neuralgia – a persistent painful complication that can lasts for weeks or months despite clearing up of rashes.
