Shingles is a condition with painful blistering rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. A person will be at higher risk of getting Shingles if he/she is:

Shingles typically occurs on one of side of the face or body and the rash usually lasts for two to three weeks. Taking anti-virals e.g. Acyclovir, at the early onset of symptoms may help to reduce the severity and hasten the recovery. Occasionally, Shingles may lead to complication such as post-herpetic neuralgia – a persistent painful complication that can lasts for weeks or months despite clearing up of rashes.

Good news! There is effective and safe vaccine for Shingles in Singapore that prevents it from recurring.
SHINGRIX is an FDA-approved vaccine for the prevention of Shingles in Singapore. It requires 2 doses with 2 to 6 months apart to be effective.
Q) How effective is SHINGRIX?
It is 97% effective in preventing Shingles in adults 50 to 69 years old with healthy immune system, and 91% effective in preventing post-herpetic neuralgia complication for the same age group of individuals.
Q) Who are the suitable candidates for SHINGRIX?
Q) I have received Zostavax (older version of Shingles Vaccine). Can I still take SHINGRIX?
Yes. Studies showed that SHINGRIX is safe and effective when administered 5 or more years after Zostavax.
Q) What are the side effects of SHINGRIX?
Possible side effects include sore arm, injection site redness or swelling, body ache, fatigue, fever, chills, headache, nausea, abdominal pain.
