Acne Try These Effective Home Remedies

For many, acne, what was once thought of as a mere part of adolescence that would soon come to pass, persists well into adulthood. It affects an estimated 85% of people at some point in their lives. Adult acne is more common than what we thought.

As someone who has suffered from acne, you would know all too well that acne treatments don’t come cheap, not to mention the number of trips you have to make to an aesthetic clinic or women’s health clinic.  In between treating blemishes that are already on your face and preventing them from coming back, having acne is an ongoing battle. Acne can leave acne scars and there are different types of acne scars too!

This would have probably prompted you to look into home remedies to treat your acne and the Internet is overflowing with suggestions ranging from natural cures to lifestyle changes. How do they fare in terms of being an acne solution?

Natural Acne Treatments

Baking Soda – A facial mask made with baking soda and water, mixed together to make a paste, might work for congested skin as it softens blackheads and unclogs the pores.

Apple Cider – This vinegar is regarded as nature’s astringent that can balance the pH level of your skin, making it less oily and dry.

Honey – A time-honoured remedy for sore throat, honey is known to soothe acne and acne scars as well.

Tea Tree Oil – A miracle antiseptic, tea tree oil, renowned for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, is said to be an effective acne treatment.

Aloe Vera – Prized for its burn-relieving properties, aloe vera is known for acne treatment and even for minimising the appearance of scars.

Lifestyle Changes to Treat Acne

✓ Eat a balanced diet and if possible, add anti-acne foods into your meals: almonds, blueberries, and avocados to name a few.

✓ Get enough sleep to give your body the rest it needs and your acne the time to heal—and of course, remove your makeup before going to bed.

✓ Be gentler on your skin by going makeup-free. Makeup contains ingredients that could further aggravate your acne.

✓ Contrary to the idea that sweating can make your acne worse, it can actually help unblock your pores by making you sweat! Just make sure to wash your face right after working out.

✓ Stay hydrated. Drinking two litres a day of water or more as needed can help skin dryness which triggers excess oil production and further contribute to acne.

✓ Did you know that the amount of oil in your skin is directly influenced by stress? To minimise your acne, look into managing your stress as well.

How Effective Are These Home Remedies?
