[:en]Can I take the COVID vaccine if I have face fillers?
Some of you might have read about the three patients with dermal fillers who have developed an adverse reactions to the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Singapore has recently approved the use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Hence, is it safe to inject dermal fillers before or after receiving the COVID 19 vaccine? Read on to find out.
The reactions that occurred to the three patients were mild. They developed swelling at the filler injection site. The swellings resolved within a few days with oral medications. None of them required hospitalization and so far, there have been no reports of any other side effects.
Such swellings at filler injection sites are known to occur, although very rarely. They are due to an inflammatory reaction which can be triggered by many factors, with vaccination being one of them. The rare events are temporary, they either respond without treatment or respond quickly to medications.
Taking into account all the current available information, both the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and The Society of Aesthetic Medicine Singapore are of the opinion that people with dermal fillers should not be discouraged or excluded from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, people who have had the COVID-19 vaccine should not be excluded from receiving dermal fillers in the future.

Therefore, it is safe to inject dermal fillers before or after receiving the COVID 19 vaccine. If you have further questions on this issue, please speak to our doctors about it.[:]
