Chinese New Year is a time for gatherings and festival feasting.
Unfortunately, gatherings and feasting are also risk factors for getting common ailments like the common cold, flatulence, indigestion, diarrhea, vomiting and gastric pains.
Many people in a confined space, the very definition of a gathering, make it easy for the cold bug to spread from one person to the next.
The sheer amount we consume during festival feastings, often much more than what we eat normally makes indigestion and flatulence common place. Dietary indiscretion may also trigger gastritis in people who are prone.
The above mentioned conditions would usually be treated after a trip to the Doctor’s office, but many are closed during Chinese New Year! There are a few 24 hour clinics that would be open but the charges would be significantly higher. So what can one do to avoid those ailments and if afflicted, what can one do for self-treatment?
Firstly, ensuring adequate rest and consuming Vitamin C may improve one’s defense against the cold bug.
Secondly, eating sensibly and listening to your stomach, i. e stopping once you feel any discomfort may prevent flatulence, indigestion and gastritis.
Once inflicted, home remedies such as hot tea, over the counter Panadol Flu and Antacids can help.
Another feasible option is to get standby medications from your local General Practitioner before CNY.
Flu, cough, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence and gastritis medications can safely be given and taken when needed. Don’t let illness tarnish your Chinese New Year, start your preparations now!
