Will the COVID-19 pandemic end in 2022?

[:en]2021 is coming to an end and even though the COVID-19 pandemic has been a bummer to all of us, World Health Organisation (WHO) forecasted the pandemic to end in 2022 – and all countries should carry that vision as well.

It’s been about two years into the situation and it hasn’t been easy for everyone; especially for those who are directly involved – our medical doctors and nurses in Singapore. As Singapore progresses forward with the necessary tools such as having vaccinations to fight COVID-19, we believe that things will get better.

With that being said, yes we are aware that the new transmissible variant – Omicron – is another big issue that we are facing, which Singapore has already reported 71 confirmed Omicron cases since 24 December 2021. This has affected many countries, including Singapore, who were planning to open up (more) borders and easing travel restrictions.

It is also believed that Omicron is likely to become a dominant strain globally – with it being 5X higher risk of infection, more transmissible and it does not seem to be milder as compared to the Delta variant. This clearly shows that 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccines is not enough to protect us against the Omicron virus and everyone is encouraged to go for their booster shots if they are eligible.
